Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva (Jizo in Korean) is primarily revered in east Asian Buddhism and is usually depicted as a buddhist monk. His name can be translated as “Earth store”, “Earth Matrix” or “Earth womb” and is known for his vow to take responsibility for the instruction of all beings in the sixth worlds between Guatama buddha and the rise of Maitreya (future Buddha).
