Guan Yin is an east Asian Bodhisattva associated with compassion and revered as the goddess of mercy. Bodhi means wisdom or enlightenment and sattva means being of essence.
The thousand hands of this Bodhisattva represents the ability to render assistance and the many faces mean that she can become who people need her to be.
A Bodhisattva is not a deity but a spiritually advanced human being, anyone can become a Bodhisattva regardless of appearance, race or gender. Whenever you act in accordance with a natural impulse of compassion you become a step nearer to becoming a Bodhisattva.
